Enjoy the small pleasures of retirement

It’s finally here, retirement, the best time of your life. You are finally finished with the hectic pace of juggling work, children and home, and now have the time to do all the things that you have wanted to do. People usually have a bucket list of things to do when they retire. Some of these may include big dreams, like travelling to exotic places or moving back to your hometown. But, remember to enjoy the small joys of retirement too.

Some small pleasures of retirement

No more Monday morning blues

Most people dread Monday mornings as the drudge of a working week stretches endlessly before them. As a retiree, you can welcome Mondays as a great start to a peaceful week.

Enjoying peaceful weekdays

While you are working, the weekdays are too hectic to go shopping or run errands. These activities have to be done in the evenings or during the weekends. Typically, malls, markets and even banks are crowded during those times as every other working adult is using their free time to attend to their chores. Only a retiree can really appreciate the bliss of walking into an almost empty bank or walking around a quiet mall on a weekday and have the place to yourself.

Getting up late in the morning

No more rushing around, gulping down your cold coffee and reading the paper on the way to work. The joy of getting up late and enjoying a hot cup of coffee on your porch or balcony, while you read the papers is a joyful experience.

Spending time with friends

Many of your friends would also be retired now and you can get together more often now than when you were working. Go out for a movie or have lunch together and catch up on each other’s lives.

Spending time with grandchildren

When your kids were small you wouldn’t have had the time or energy to play with them. Now that you are retired, you have all the time in the world to spend with your grandchildren. Make the most of it.

Reading

All those books that you didn’t have time to read are waiting out there for you. You can even join a reading club and enjoy discussing the books that you have read with like-minded people. It is also a great way to make new friends.

Not having to stick to a schedule

Your time is yours and you can do whatever you want, when you want without having to be worried about being late for a meeting or missing a conference call.

Have a quiet moment with God

If you are a spiritual person and hated hurrying in and out of temples when you were working, this is the time to enjoy your temple visits. You can go to the temple when it isn’t crowded and spend a peaceful couple of hours in meditation.

Binge watching your favourite shows

Ever wanted to do a movie or TV show marathon and not had the time for it? Well, now you can. Fill up that tub of popcorn, snuggle in and watch on.
